World Book Day
Following the snow of the previous week we held our celebration of literature on Thursday 8th March. The children took full advantage of the chance to dress up. We had pirates, princesses, wizards, witches, dinosaurs, scarecrows and many more characters arriving ready to celebrate their favourite books.
The staff too dressed themselves as much loved characters. Stalking the halls of Porters Grange was a fearsome looking Professor Snape. Up to mischief was Ginny Weasley and her friend Harry Potter. Goldilocks’ bear kept his porridge safe and Roger the Rat could be seen flitting around the school.
Finally there was our World Book Day competition. Every class from Nursery to Year 6 took a book or theme from a book and decorated their doors.
Winning this year was the collective effort of Year 5 with their recreation of Diagon Alley. Sea Turtle created Ollivander’s Wand Emporium, Swordfish turned their door into Eeylops Owl Emporium and Magical Menagerie and Sea Dragons made their door into Gringott’s Goblin Bank. Also in their corridor could be found the Leaky Cauldron and the magical wall that leads to Diagon Alley.
Joint second was the door from Nursery, who used the snow that caused our original celebration day to be cancelled as their inspiration, with The Snowman themed door. Also Year 6’s Stingray Class used the work they have been carrying out in English lessons to create a door of Ancient Greek myths.
