Yr 5 visit Sutton Hoo

On Tuesday 27th March 2018 the children in Year 5 embarked on a trip to Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge in Suffolk. The journey took just over an hour and a half and once arrived, the children were eager to get stuck in to the day’s activities. The group was soon greeted by a member of the Sutton Hoo staff and were separated into class groups.

Whilst on the visit there was an opportunity to learn more about the story of Sutton Hoo when visiting the museum. The children were particularly interested in the treasury which holds replicas of the treasures found on site. Luckily, the rain did not keep everyone from exploring the burial mounds. The children thoroughly enjoyed the guided activity ‘archaeological detectives’ where they handled replica artefacts, created artefact rubbings, tried their hands at recreating patterns on pots using clay and investigated a human skeleton.
