Porters Grange Primary School always endeavour to promote a love of reading so we were thrilled that we were fortunate enough to welcome the author Colm Field into school on Wednesday 12th February, due to our wonderful partnership with Jacqson Diego Story Emporium. Colm delivered an amazing assembly about his experiences as an author and his exciting Kyan Green book series. The children enjoyed how Colm shared his experiences of becoming a writer. It was fascinating to find out that he started writing as a child and now writes alongside his job as a construction worker. His advice was to write everyday, anywhere on anything, such as on your phone on a bus or on a notepad in the park! Colm promoted that all ideas are worth writing down, whether to help you work through things or to create your own story. He explained that stories come from what you know, however, when you write about something you do not know it is worth asking for people to read your ideas and listen to their opinions. We were also immersed into his Kyan Green stories of racing across the multiverse. His stories really promoted one of our growth mind set learning powers…using your imagination! After the assembly, children were able to purchase his books and get them signed which was a real treat. The Kyan Green series by Colm Field is published by Bloomsbury and is available from Jacqson Diego Story Emporium and all good bookshops.
