Songwriting Workshop

The students from Year 5 were invited to take part in ‘Together’, a new choral music collaborative project organised by Southend Choirs and composed by the award-winning composer Kerry Andrew.

We were visited by Ben See, a singer and composer, who encouraged the students to devise short lyrical ideas inspired by their own feelings around connection and community during lockdown. After much collaboration, the phrase, “I am a lost boy from Neverland, lonely and confused” was put to music and recorded. Hopefully Kerry can use this idea in her composition, and the new work will reflect the varied voices and experiences of young people in Southend.

It will be performed in Southend later this year.
